Benefits of Mindfulness, Meditation, and Mindful Movement
People experience a variety of benefits associated with mindfulness, meditation, and mindful movement practices (stretching, yoga, qigong, tai chi, etc.). Regardless of why we may initially choose to begin such things, many advocate a "non-striving" approach, i.e. trusting the practices and letting experiences unfold without striving for any particular goal.
These practices are not necessarily religious in nature- but they can be if so desired- it is how one chooses to frame and practice them. At a basic level, they can be "in the now practices," exercising/stretching, mind-body unity practices, etc. Yoga, qigong, and tai chi have different histories and philosophies, but beyond words and labels they overlap with breath and body awareness, meditation, "now" awareness, and mind-body unity/awareness, and they can be practiced for a lifetime.
There are many books, articles, videos, and websites, for yoga, qigong, and tai chi (also check out Udemy).
Be mindful of your limitations with any of these practices- adapt them as necessary based on your abilities and seek expert/professional guidance if needed.
